Soup puree with eggplants and pearl barley

Recently I read about pearl barley and how useful it is, so I have searched some recipes with it. I found nice site about cooking and liked the soup with pearl barley. here the link:, but I slightly changed the recipe and the way of cooking and also blend the soup in food processor with some sour cream and turn it into soup puree.
Half a cup of pearl barley (100 grams)
1 big onion, peeled and chopped
1 medium sized carrot, peeled and grated
2-3 medium sized eggplants, peeled and cubed
Salt to taste
1 tsp of cumin seeds
Half a tsp of pepper
2 cloves of garlic, chopped
2 tbsp of olive oil
Sour cream to taste
Soak pearl barley overnight. The next day, drain and put into the clean water and cook until pearl barley is soft.Drain all of the water and set aside.
In another pan, fry onions, garlic and spices until golden, add in carrots and eggplants. Continue frying over medium heat, until oil will start to separate out. Stir constantly, as it can stick to the bottom of the pan.
Now put in barley, fry for 2 min and then add in 800 ml of water or chicken broth and simmer for 30 min. At the end, add in salt. Pour soup in blender and blend with sour cream. Serve with some coriander and enjoy!

Bean hummus

I love to experiment! This time I made hummus out of red beans! The preparation process is similar to chickpea hummus. Tastes amazing!
250 grams of uncooked red beans
5 tbsp of tahini
3 tbsp of lemon juice
2-3 cloves of garlic
Salt to taste
Olive oil
Soak beans for overnight. The next day, drain and put in clean water, cook until soft. Blend in food processor with tahini, garlic, lemon juice and some salt. Blend until smooth adding water where beans were cooked. Serve putting some whole beans and a little olive oil.

At the bazaar

Sevinch just loves to go to Sunday bazaar, just to have a look to the different animals over there. This time she loved this couple of owl chicks and begged me to buy them for her, I had to explain that they are wild birds and can be dangerous. I think she didn't believed me:) And yes they look so innocent. They were sooo cute! But I feel so pity for them and for their parents...Humans are also wild creatures...

Broke the cup!

I had a beautiful white cup and accidentally broke it. I didn't want to throw out the plate, so I decided to decorate it with my polymer flowers and draw some lines with a glass liner:) I also used glass colors for the edges. Nice plate for room decoration don't you think?

Healthy oatmeal cookies without sugar, flour or butter

As I am a sweet tooth, I am addicted to making healthy cookies, just to avoid that sugar and white flour which make me to gain weight. So I tried these cookies and loved them!
100 grams of coarse oatmeal
100 grams of black raisins
150 grams of dates
70 grams of walnuts
50 grams of almonds
2 egg whites
Chop up nuts. Mix all of the ingredients, but egg whites.Mash them well, until sticky.

Beat up egg whites until stiff peak and mix carefully to the sticky dough.

Shape up smaller balls with 2 spoons and flatten them a bit. Bake in preheated oven until a nice light golden color. For more beautiful look you can sprinkle cookies with icing sugar, but I prefer not:)

My miniature paintings

I love drawing miniatures, it is fun, it is really enjoying and it is relatively fast, because when I paint with oil, sometimes it takes me a month to finish my painting, though, painting with watercolor is more difficult than the oil. I draw miniatures with watercolors and gouache and every work has it's own meaning.

"Tooth fairy" doll for our family dentist:)

I sew this doll for our family dentist. He is nice and decent man who makes his work perfectly, so I wanted to thank him with this small gift. I didn't use any pattern, just draw and cut all the parts depending on my eyes:) Hope you will find the process fun and useful.
For the head, I cut out this shape and sew up the every space like this:

Then I combine two parts and fill it with polyester:

So the head is ready now:

Then I sew the body and stitch it behind the head:

Made hair out of yellow wool, using a book and a scissors. I just wrap out the wool around the book and then sew the middle:

And then cut out the other end:

Drew eyes and a mouth with an acrylic paint:

I couldn't take pictures of the rest of the process, as I go so deep in it and forgot to take pictures, sorry:) Just can say that, I sew up arms and legs, stitched them to the body, sew cute dress and a tooth and then, I did remember about the camera:)

Blouse out of your husband's shirt:)

I love my husband's shirts, they are soft and comfortable:) the only thing is-they are not very feminine:), but I found the way! I made new blouse, which is feminine, comfortable and nice for home wearing. Try out cutting out your husbands shirts and you will find out soon, that it is indeed fun, as you can make different blouses from the same shirt:)
For this kind of blouse you will need:
Your husbands shirt

Rubber band
Some lace
First of cut along all the collar like this:

Sew the edges leaving some space in it, for putting through the lace and then gathering it.
Then cut the sleeves:

Sew up the sleeves with a rubber band.
And you're done! New, soft and comfortable blouse!

My lace jewelery

The other day I saw a beautiful lace strip in "Lace center" shop, immediately I got an idea and bought it. As soon as we were at home, I started making some jewelery out of that gorgeous lace. I had some pearls and some polymer clay roses, which I made myself. Later I will write a post how to make them.

I measured my wrist and cut out 3 flowers out of the lace and made a bracelet, from a single flowers I made a pair of earrings. Those are ready, now I am thinking about to make a ring and a pendant from the other left over flowers:) As soon as I finish them I will show you. I just need some materials-ring and metal hook for pendant.

Cake in cup, baked in microwave

When sometimes I want something sweet and don't want to bake anything, to avoid time taking process, I make this kind of cake to treat myself:) It is fast, delicious and takes no time to prepare. Every time I try to make different cakes, just to experiment:) Use your biggest cup for this cake. Batter must fill 3/4 th of the cup. Cake will float out of the cup, that's ok.
1 egg
1 tbsp of cream
Half a tbsp of butter, melted
1 tbsp of cocoa powder
2 tbsp or less sugar
4 tbsp of plain flour
Half a tsp of baking powder
Just mix all of the ingredients directly in cup. Bake for 3 min in max power. Baking time can vary as microwaves are different. Cake is ready when inserted wooden stick will come out dry.
That's it! Enjoy!
P.S. You can top the cake with chocolate or some other sweet sauce if you want. I just skip that and enjoyed cake itself with a hot cup of green tea:)

Mango, apple cake with cottage cheese

I am a sweet addict! I can't live even a day without sweets, this is my biggest weakness:)Though, I try to watch my weight and try to bake healthy treats for my family.
100 grams of butter
100 ml of sour cream
2 eggs
1 tsp of baking soda
Plain flour as needed
200 grams of cottage cheese
200 grams of mango preserve
1 medium sized apple
Half cup of sugar or less (depends on how sweet is mango preserve)
Grate chilled butter and mix with 1 cup of plain flour and start to rub between hands, until it will resemble bread crumbs. Add in 1 tbsp of sugar, egg yolks, b.s and sour cream, mix all together.

Start adding more flour until you will form medium hard dough. Wrap the dough and chill for 1 hour.
Divide the dough in two, one part smaller then the other. Bigger part must be rolled out and layered in to the bottom of the baking pan.
In another dish, mix preserved mango and cottage cheese until smooth.

Slice apple in crescent shapes. Layer mango mixture on top of the layered dough, place apple slices over it.

Whisk egg whites until peak and add in the rest of the sugar. Layer on top of apples.

Now take the smaller part of the dough and grate over egg whites.

Bake in preheated oven until nice golden color. Sprinkle over with powdered sugar while the cake is hot.

Cut and serve. Enjoy this delicious cake!

Perfect breakfast in bed!

For me an ideal breakfast is the breakfast prepared with love and care. Sometimes I like to surprise my husband with special and delicious breakfast to bed, while he is sleeping:) So today's was whole wheat crepes with strawberry sauce!
For crepes:
300 ml of milk or whey
2 eggs
1 tbsp of vegetable oil
1 tbsp of sugar
half a tsp of salt
Half a tsp of baking soda
3/4 cup of whole wheat flour
Plain flour as needed
A little oil for frying crepes
For sauce:
300 grams of strawberry
3 tbsp of honey
Whisk eggs in milk, add in oil, sugar, salt and mix well. In separate bowl, mix baking powder with whole wheat flour and combine with milk mixture. Mix well, add in some plain flour until mixture is thick enough, but runny when pured out of spoon. I didn't really measure plain flour, as it depends on how big are your eggs, so depend on your eyes. Batter must be like thin sour cream.
Finely heat up your thick bottomed pan. Sprinkle some oil and pour a small laddle of batter on the pan, while swirling it to distribute the batter evenly all over the pan. Fry until golden and then turn upside down and cook the other side. Crepes must be thin enough, but still thicker than the regular crepes. Cook again until you will use up your batter. Set ready crepes aside.
In food processor, blend strawberries with honey, until smooth puree. Serve 3-4 crepes for person and pour strawberry sauce on top, decorate with some whole strawberries.

Korean tofu salad

I just love Korean food, especially salads! Recently I tried new recipe with tofu and I loved it! This salad is nutritious, yet low in calorie, perfect source of protein and vitamins!
150 grams of tofu
100 grams of rice vermicelli
60 grams of peanuts
About 10-15 olives, sliced
2-3 cloves of garlic, mashed
1 medium sized cucumber, cubed
Fresh coriander, chopped
100 ml of soy sauce
2 tbsp of rice vinegar
1 tsp of sugar
Salt to taste
3 tbsp of sesame or olive oil
A little sesame oil for frying tofu
Cut tofu in medium sized cubes. Mix well soy sauce, rice vinegar and sugar all together. Pour this mixture over cubed tofu and let it stand for at least 30 min.

While tofu is marinating, toast peanuts, I like when peanuts are toasted until brown-they will give more taste. Boil 1 liter of water and pour it over rice vermicelli, cover and set aside. Cube cucumber, slice olives, chop greens and mash garlic.

Drain tofu well and dry well with a cotton towel. Sprinkle pan with sesame oil and fry tofu until nice golden color.

Finely drain rice vermicelli, add in olive oil and mix well. Add in rest of ingredients and mix carefully. You can also mix all of the ingredients, but tofu and at the end, just put it on top of the salad, just like as me. I was afraid to mash the tofu.
Serve and enjoy!
